CLASSES

Hundreds were in attendance at our Grand Opening of the Miramar Youth Enrichment Center on Saturday, August 25. After the ribbon cutting ceremony, children and their parents enjoyed the free hot dogs and soda, and were entertained by the Miami Heat Xtreme Team and Burnie, the official Heat Mascot. Outdoor rides and tennis drills were available all day. Inside tours were conducted, the computer lab was open, Mama Goose read stories, sand art creations were made, contractual classes registered new participants and our very talented face painters transformed the children into various characters. The children were provided with free basketballs and pencil cases as this exciting day came to an end.

One of the most impressive amenities to be found at the Center is the new 10,000 sq ft gymnasium with basketball and volleyball courts. It will include a multi-purpose room/library, computer lab, weight room, conference room, concession stand, offices for administrative staff, as well as male and female restrooms with showers and locker rooms to accommodate tournament teams. Also included will be a recreational room for classes and programs such as baton, dance, and karate; fun activities such as pool, ping pong, and bumper pool will be offered in the game room.

In addition, two new lighted outdoor basketball courts, a combination of three soft tennis courts (clay courts) and three hard tennis courts (asphalt courts) are included in the new Facility.  In soft courts, balls tend to bounce relatively high and slow; in hard courts, strong-serving players have a slight advantage where fast and low bounces tend to keep rallies short. This combination of soft and hard courts will serve residents of all ages.

The Youth Enrichment Center offers a variety of classes, youth camps and Police Athletic League (PAL) programs.
