Out with the old and in with the new. The City of Miramar will be hosting a Community Garage Sale on Saturday, March 20, 2010 from 7:00 am-12:00 pm. The garage sale will be held at the Forzano Field, 2001 Douglas Rd. All proceeds from the Community Garage Sale will benefit the American Cancer Society.

Vendor spaces are 10x10 in size and cost $25 per space for residents and $30 per space for non-residents. A $25 refundable security deposit is required. If you are interested in purchasing a vendor space for the garage sale, you can download the application. Applications may be dropped off Monday-Friday at the Miramar Youth Enrichment Center, 7000 Miramar Parkway between the hours of 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. the Miramar Town Center, 2300 Civic Center Place, between the hours of 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m.; Fairway Park between the hours of 2:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.; or Sunset Lakes Community Center, 2801 SW 186 Avenue between the hours of 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. Checks or Money Orders only payable to: American Cancer Society. No Cash Payments! Vendor applications will be accepted beginning Monday, February 1, 2010 and must be received no later than Thursday, March 11, at 5:00 p.m. Applications are available at Fairway Park, 3700 Largo Drive; Miramar Town Center, Community Services, 2200 Civic Center Place.

Saturday, March 27, at 9:30 a.m.
Hop into Spring at the City of Miramar’s annual Eggstravaganza 2010 at Forzano Field, 2001 Douglas Road.

Be there by 9:30 am to greet Peter Cottontail when he arrives by Fire Truck.   Over 12,000 eggs will line the field and the egg hunt begins promptly at 10:00 a.m.  This FREE event is geared to children 12 and under.  Children will be divided in the following age categories: 2 and under, 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12 years.  Prizes will be awarded to the finders of special prize eggs in each age category.  Parents are responsible for providing a basket or bag to hold the eggs the children will collect. Following the egg hunt, children can get their picture taken with Peter Cottontail, so don’t forget those cameras. 

Bring your baskets and cameras and come join us for an “egg”citing morning at Eggstravaganza 2010.

The City of Miramar and All Service Refuse, Inc. is hosting “Breakfast with Santa” for children (accompanied by an adult) on Saturday, December 12, 2009 9:00 a.m., at the Miramar Civic Center, 6920 SW 35 St. This holiday event will feature a hearty hot breakfast served buffet style, costumed characters, a special visit and photo with Santa, along with goodie bags for every child.

The City of Miramar and All Service Refuse, Inc. invite you to visit a winter wonderland South Florida style on Saturday, December 5, beginning at 5:30 pm, at the Miramar Town Center, 2300 Civic Center Place. Festive sights and sounds will surround the Miramar Town Center Plaza during the annual Holiday Illuminations in Miramar. This free, entertainment-packed celebration is the perfect way to start the holiday season.

Local schools and entertainers will perform holiday favorites on an outdoor stage with a special holiday show complete with talented singers, costumed characters, the lighting of our holiday tree, and a special guest from the North Pole. Children 12 and under will have a “cool” time as they play in tons of snow. Snow passes will be provided at the event. Other activities will include inflatable’s, and face painting. HALLOWEEN MASQUERADE DANCE

Tickets for the City of Miramar’s annual Halloween Masquerade Dance for students in grades 6-8 go on sale, Monday, September 28, 2009 at the Miramar Youth Enrichment Center, 7000 Miramar Parkway from 1:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.; Ansin Sports Complex, 10801 Miramar Blvd, from 7 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.; and Sunset Lakes Community Center, 2801 SW 186 Ave. from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday thru Friday. Tickets cost $3 each.

The dance will be held on Saturday, October 24 at the Miramar Civic Center, 6920 SW 35 St. The dance begins at 7 p.m. Come in costume. Tickets at the door will cost $5 and are limited to the first 25 students in line with their middle school student ID cards. Space is limited so buy your tickets early. The City of Miramar Community Services Department in conjunction with Memorial Healthcare will host a “Back to School Health Fair” for children. Free physical exams, immunizations, vision, hearing, blood pressure screenings, and much more will be provided by medical professionals on Saturday, August 15, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. at our new location, Miramar Youth Enrichment Center, 7000 Miramar Parkway. The City of Miramar’s Community Services Department, the Sun Sentinel, and All Service Refuse invite you to join us at the City of Miramar’s Fourth of July Concert and Fireworks Show. On July 4th we will honor our nation’s birthday with a free, fun-filled family event beginning at 6:00 pm at the Miramar Regional Park. 16801 Miramar Parkway. Adult guests can compete in the “All American Apple Pie Eating Contest” and the “I Can’t See My Ice Cream Contest”. Children 12 and under can compete in the “Bubble Gum Blowing Contest”. Prizes will be awarded for first place winners in all contests. Pre-registration for all contests begins at 6:00 pm. There will also be live entertainment featuring the sounds of Lu White Combo, inflatable rides and face painting. At 9 pm the evening will conclude with a fabulous fireworks display. Refreshments will be available for purchase.

So make your plans now to meet your family and friends at the City of Miramar’s Fourth of July Concert and Fireworks Show. Don’t forget to bring your lawn chairs and blankets. Safety regulations prohibit fireworks, glass bottles, sparklers and animals at this event.

EARTH DAY CELEBRATION

April 25th - A Regional Fun-Filled Family Festivity Packed with Continuous Activities for Adults and Children! An opportunity to learn more about healthy living and sustainable products and services. There will be environmental exhibitors, eco-arts & crafts, give-aways, and inflatables. The event is hosted by the City of Miramar and the US Green Building Council.

No celebration is complete without fabulous food, music and entertainment! A farmers market will feature fresh and delicious yummies. Nurseries will display a general assortment of perennials, herbs, flowering and fruiting shrubs and trees. Live bands and dance performances will encourage everyone to move to the groove.

The Earth Day Celebration will be held 10:30am-3:00pm at the Miramar Regional Park, 16801 Miramar Parkway. Free event with $1.50/pp park entrance fee (Free for children 5 & under).

The City of Miramar Community Services Department is pleased to announce a “GOING GREEN” event, “THE FIRST ANNUAL MIRAMAR FAMILY BICYCLE RALLY”, to be held on Saturday, March 14, 2009 beginning at 9:00am at the Miramar Town Center, 2300 Civic Center Place. This FREE event will include a Family Bicycle Route and an Enthusiasts Bicycle Route. Both routes will take their riders through Police controlled intersections, and tree lined streets of Miramar. Both routes begin and end at the Miramar Town Center, where there will be bicycle safety inspections, Children’s Bicycle Rodeo, refreshments available for purchase and other vendors. CLASSIC CAR SHOW

The City of Miramar Community Services Department, All Service Refuse, Inc, the Southwest Broward Elks Lodge #2273 and the Miramar Police Athletic League bring you a classic and customized car show, Sunday, March 1, 2009, from 11 am – 4 pm at the Miramar Regional Park, 16801 Miramar Parkway. This open show will feature classic and customized vehicles. Top 60 entries receive awards. Dash plaques will be given to the first 100 vehicles. Show Car Registration fee is $15. Other activities include free live entertainment, inflatables for the children, and raffles all day long. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. All proceeds will benefit the Southwest Broward Elks Lodge #2273 and the Miramar Police Athletic League. Park fees are $1.50 per person, children 5 and under are free. ANSIN SPORTS COMPLEX GRAND OPENING

The City of Miramar announces the Grand Openning of Ansin Sports Complex on Saturday, February 14, beginning at 11 a.m. The complex is located at 10801 Miramar Blvd, just east of Hiatus Road. This 24 acre park features a state-of-the-art track that will be IAAF certified (International Association of Athletics Federations) with the ability to host national and international competition. The Super X Mondo track surface is identical to the 2008 Olympic track surface in Beijing. The park also includes outdoor basketball, netball courts with lights and a cricket practice area. The 5,000 square foot all-inclusive playground is funded by the Children’s Services Council of Broward County. In addition to the outdoor amenities, the Ansin Sports Community Center will have a computer lab, recreation room, game room, men’s and women’s locker room, concession stand, offices and a 2nd floor press area that over-looks the track.
